In April 2024, Centar E8 and Reflektor Teatar brought together university and high-school students to develop a theatre performance on young people’s relationship to patriotism. Over six months, the group studied Serbia’s recent history through the methods of constructive confrontation with the past, followed by workshops, lectures, visits to sites of memory, and rehearsals.
MY LAND – Making Of documents this process, from the first workshop at Centar E8 to the Belgrade premiere and the tour across the former Yugoslavia. Its particular focus is the activist awakening of the generation that led the largest student demonstrations in Serbia’s history: a film about young people making a performance ends with the student blockade of the University of Belgrade, in which the performers take part a document of the beginning of the student uprising, and of socially engaged theatre as a means of education and political literacy.
